Mellomlag er et isolerende lag som ikke ligger innerst mot huden og heller ikke er ytterst. Været kan fort endre seg, men har du riktig mellomlag kan junior enkelt ta det av eller på for å regulere varme og ventilasjon. Ullundertøy kan brukes året rundt, da ull har den evnen at det holder på varmen 4 ganger så mye som bomull, men er allikevel sval når det er varmt.
