- How to pick a schoolbag
Laptop, books, lunchbox, pencil case, water bottle and P.E. clothes. A schoolbag can quickly become heavy and it's carried around every day. It's therefore important for kids to use backpacks that give good support and comfort. Here are some tips for how to pick the perfect schoolbag for your child.
Small, growing backs deserve only the best. We use all our expertise from designing and developing backpacks for adults when making schoolbags for kids. When you choose a backpack from Bergans, you are guaranteed high-quality that will last you for years.
What to look for when choosing a school bag for kids
The backpack should fit snuggly to the largest possible part of the back. This helps distribute the weight evenly.
Choose a backpack with an adjustable back length if possible. This not only means that the bag can be adapted even better to the body, but also that it can grow with the child.
Good adjustment capabilities on straps and harnesses make it easy to adapt the bag to the body.
The backpack should have a chest strap and hip belt.
The shoulder straps should be well padded and preferably form-fitting.
A good opening on the bag makes it easier for the child to pack and take things out of the bag.
Are you buying a bag for a small child? Check that buckles and zips are suitable for children's hands so that the child can open and close them themselves.
Pockets in different sizes are always practical.
Check that the bag can be washed.

How heavy can a child carry?
This is highly individual based on the child's physical capabilities and experience, but a rule of thumb is that a backpack should not weigh more than 10-15 % of the child's bodyweight.
